Ridley Scott is one of cinema's most prolific and visually magnificent directors, whose career has spanned seven decades without any diminishment of ambition or output. His debut features Alien (1979) and Blade Runner (1982) are cornerstones of science fiction cinema. Gladiator won the Academy Award for Best Picture and launched a new era of the epic film.
