A workmanlike action thriller that kicked off Amazon MGM's 2026 theatrical slate elevated considerably by Famke Janssen's commanding presence in a role that finally gives her the solo action vehicle she's deserved for two decades.
Janssen's Moment
Critics were harsh on Mercy the plot is generic, the villains underwritten, the action sequences adequately competent without being especially memorable. What they consistently acknowledged was that Famke Janssen, at 60, carries the film with an authority and physicality that most action leads half her age couldn't match. This is an actress who played Jean Grey and Xenia Onatopp and has always deserved more than she got, and Mercy at least gives her the spotlight.
"Generic plot aside, Janssen is magnetic and watching her kick her way through bad guys with complete conviction is its own kind of pleasure."
 VarietyThe Verdict
A 24% on RT is harsh but not entirely wrong. A 83% audience score is probably more accurate. Undemanding action cinema elevated by a star finally given her due.
