The sequel delivers more of exactly what the audience wanted more animatronics, more mythology, and more Matthew Lillard doing something genuinely unhinged with his eyes.
Freddy's Returns
The original Five Nights at Freddy's film was a massive commercial success $297M worldwide on $20M, driven by Cawthon's devoted fanbase. The sequel expands the mythology, deepens the lore around William Afton's terrible crimes, and gives Lillard more to do. These are all good things. Tammi shows more confidence in the material. The animatronic effects remain excellent physical horror figures with a presence CGI creatures can't replicate. The escalating reveals about Freddy Fazbear's history are genuinely creepy for fans familiar with the games.
"More mythology, more Lillard, more animatronics. The game fans get exactly what they came for, delivered with more skill than the first film."
 Dread CentralThe Verdict
Better than the first film for non-fans; a full-course meal for the faithful. $194M on $40M proves the franchise continues to print money. The animatronics are still horrifying. Freddy says hi.
